The World sucks right now, here’s a little hope:

xanderxcagex:

I know the world is spiraling into some really dark and horrid places, and people are feeling a loss of faith in humanity, so I figured I would post a little something that may be a small light in these dark times.

I am a Founding Member of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles, a volunteer chorus made up of entirely Transgender and Gender Non-conforming people, and our mission is to change the ecology of the world and to bring acceptance, love and affirmation to the T part of the LGBTQIA community, and to everyone else. This weekend I was honored to join a protest, and because I am still so jet-lagged and lacking sleep, I’m copypasting my feelings and what I posted on Facebook directly following the protest event below. Please know that not all the world is terrible.:

The amount of love, affirmation and friendship I have received in the past 24 hours is so overwhelming that my heart is nearly bursting from my chest. Turtle Creek Chorale is filled with some of the most amazing men I have ever met. The fact that they have come up in this intolerant and blood red state, blood from our fallen siblings, and are still so open and amazing fills me with such joy. These men are all cisgender, but they took it upon themselves to host a 24 hour Sing-in for Dignity: a protest against the Texas bathroom bill. Not very many of these men knew much about the trans experience, but they were all so ready to learn, and so accepting. I cannot ever fully encompass what this experience was like, amd I’m sad that more of our TCLA siblings were not able to join us and feel this love.

I had gay uncles come ask me questions and tell me their niece is now their nephew, and tell us good things about family being supportive and affirming. I taught and gave of myself, and these guys lapped up the information. These beautiful men with truly angelic, beautiful voices are so absolutely amazing.

At lunch break today, someone brought deviled eggs, which I love. I asked a TCC member if he would get one for me, and he said “no. You’re no longer a guest, you’re family. Y'all can get up and get your own stuff.” Just like that, we’ve got a large family with hearts bigger than Texas herself. Some of these men are 50, 60+ and possibly older, and a large portion of them stayed up and singing for *twenty four hours*, singing for our lives. At our final singing break, after a moving song, I was feeling so emotional. An older trans woman came up to me, and I hugged her, and the tears started flowing. She said “you know, in Austin sometimes, it’s hard to feel anything but alone, but I know y'all are out there now.”

I am revitalized, re-energized, and filled with so much love I may drown in it. The fact that these men did this for us and our siblings in this state where we are so much more at risk, that there are this many people who go against the grain of the stereotype you think of when you think of Texas, it gives me hope that even though our world is spiraling, there are enough good people out there. We are gonna make it, we are family, and we will survive and thrive.
