ecclesiastus:

He snorts lightly at the ARROGANCE of the other man, narrowin’ his eyes against all the saccharine. He knows when people are tryin’ t’be what they AIN’T, an’ it don’t work on him. He ain’t BUYIN’.

❝ —  An’ I know lots of criminals an’ some of them
dress like SHIT. Guess we all wear different
                faces. ❞

The bottle is taken back, raised to lips for another gulp like it’s water and he’s a man in a desert.

        ❝ —  That’s PRIME Southern whiskey. You won’t
make man friends around here if you’re too
                 pussy to drink it. ❞

FUCKIN’ big city boys, thinkin’ they can just wander out where ever they please and do whatever suits them best. Jesse’ll go down fightin’ though. And boy does he know how to FIGHT.

        ❝ —  Well, like I said. I don’t care much for the
people of this town, but it’s MY town. An’
you got no right to come in here an’ start
                 pokin’ around. ❞

One thing Red would never claim competency in is the whole Southern Backwoods —thing. But he knew his ways would seem high-falutin’ and come off like an anvil salesman in River City.

“We definitely do, can’t say you’re my first priest, though. Maybe my first priest with a penchant for cowboy boots, though,” that cardinal he’d delivered, well. He’d deserved it, but that was another story entirely. Red chuckles and leans in on the car a bit, still not touching it.

“I think you misinterpreted. I’m more accustomed to peaty, lowlands Scotch, this concoction you’re drinking is much stronger than I was expecting,” as if to prove the point, he takes the bottle straight from the priest–would that be coveting and theft? He’d stopped counting decades ago, and took another swig. “Enough with the roundabout stories and falsehoods then, I’ll get straight to the point. Jesse, I don’t have the need to ‘poke around’, I know exactly who I’m looking for.”
